Family-owned · Pioneers since 2017

Born from a love story.
Grown into a family table.

Ujeong is Puerto Rico's original Korean BBQ house — the first of its kind on the island, opened by a family of entrepreneurs who fell in love with Korean cuisine and brought it home to share.

From our island to Seoul

Chapter One · New York → Seoul

It began at the Culinary Institute.

One of the family's sons left Puerto Rico to study at the Culinary Institute of America in New York, chasing a craft. What he didn't expect was to also find love — a young Korean woman whose culture, family and flavors would change the course of his life.

Together, they moved to South Korea, where he spent nearly two years immersed in the country's culinary tradition — from bustling street markets to family kitchens, learning how a shared grill can turn strangers into friends.

Chapter Two · Puerto Rico

Christmases that smelled of kimchi.

Every December, the family would come back together in Puerto Rico. But instead of the traditional Boricua Christmas spread, the kitchen filled with the aromas of kimchi, galbi and bulgogi. Korea had quietly become part of the family.

Around that table, over shared plates and stories, an idea grew: the flavors that had transformed their own family could bring the same warmth to their island — with a Boricua touch, so every neighbor could feel at home at a Korean grill.

Chapter Three · 2017

The pioneers.

A family of entrepreneurs by nature, they decided to take what had been created within their own walls and share it with everyone. In 2017, Ujeong opened its doors as the first Korean BBQ restaurant in Puerto Rico — the pioneers of an entire scene.

The ingredients and recipes come straight from Korea, but every dish is finished with a Puerto Rican fusion — because not every Boricua palate eats the way Koreans do. It's Korea, made to feel like home on the island.

"Ujeong" — the Korean word for friendship.
